Wed Jun 28, 2017 6:29 am

Hey folks

Lets floats some predictions on what the new collation government will do in regards to housing.
My guess,
-Increase forign buyers tax
-Apply FB tax across BC
-increase PTT tax
-slap a capital gains tax on sales of homes over a set threshold, say $750k
The voters have spoken, WE WILL GET TAXED!!!!!!!

People are worried about nothing.

They won't do any of those things that you mentioned.

Serious sky-is-falling attitude from those that are crying about an NDP/Green government.

It happened. Horgan is the Premier. But, Christy and her cohort will do everything possible to bring him down. There is some complication about the ability of the Speaker to vote on bills. So, the NDP/Green will face difficulty passing non-confidence bills.

Within the next 4-6 months:
- Some sort of task force that will start laying bare some questionable practices in real estate.
- Closing loopholes on residential tenancy leases
- More money for FICOM and more data sharing with the CRA

Longer term I expect some debate on some income-based property taxation but it's a rather complicated idea and I don't know if it will pass. Raising the foreign buyers tax may be tried but it won't do much IMO.

I also expect some preferred loan schemes geared towards building nonprofit rental, coop, and land trusts.
There is no shame in overpaying
