Mark my words .. RE will drop between now and post election

Wed Jul 22, 2015 9:23 am

I'm putting a stake in the ground here. You will see a significant drop in RE prices (10% or more) between now and post Canada election (say 6-10 months or so).

So properties in Vancouver will go back to selling for original asking price?

Harper and friends are furiously borrowing via the BOC and CMHC in order to prop up the economy and get their next 5 year mandate.

Once that's out of the way (assuming they get re-elected) they can take the punch bowl away for a couple of years to get our house in order. LIberals will do the same. They will want to reserve punch bowl antics to the last 2-3 years of their election. Democracts, I think, hate high house prices and high rents, so probably screwed regardless.

Mark your words????
What do you know?
Just 5 years ago you were saying that realtors should also be taxi drivers.
But with modern technology it would be better if they were Uber drivers.

on each property class? Or the composite?
'Cause I really can't see a 10%+ drop in detached within 10 months...listings are way too low, demand way too high

I meant between now and 6-10 months post election.

I go by teranet HPI for Vancouver as the one I regard as most useful / credible.

Based on what reason. Just cause you wish it doesn't mean it will come to pass

I'll take a wager on detached Vancouver (city)

Tough bet this year.

Its been such a ridiculously hot selling year that it makes one think next year could be a slow down.

On the other hand, the capital flight out of China right now is mind numbingly large. Some of that money surely must be flooding here.

Yep, so much for Opportunity Costs of not buying back in the day.
I would say it's more like, "Opportunity Lost".

Let me add a caveate.. Assuming we get a majority government. If it is a minority conservative, than monetary policy will stay loose.

If majority, the government will tighten monetary policy after it gets elected. Of that there is no doubt.

LMAOOOO this gotta be the dumbest thread in the history of RealEstateTalks!!! Absolute insanity!!! Vancouver's housing prices have nowhere else to go but UP UP UP!!! Politics has no impact in our housing market, it's all about the rapidly rising demand on the number of wealthy people wanting to move here.
