If I had the majority of my net worth in Vancouver real estate I would be very afraid. 

It's nice to be liquid and renting.
Just wait till you get the boot from your landlord and enter the realm of bidding wars for rentals
i guess you can always sleep in your pile of money

Since that last drop in 2008, its been almost 10 years. All the people who bought are already half way through their 20 year mortgage. Sales r down because most sellers are still asking for the moon. Have just seen one detached narrow lot sell for above assessed price and barely lasted a week

So long as there is strong rental demand there will be housing sales. I heard a professional estimate that for investment in a detached home, at 20% down, the return for rental each year is 8-9%. The way I see it there are some strong reasons for prices to flatten or increase over the next few years.
 
Looks that way with increasing rents and very little inventory on the market. You can see who reads and follow the "newspaper" on this forum.

Most people look at the long term trends and historical averages. Some people don't know what they're doing and just read the newspaper then follow whatever is written
