Re: In Vancouver, renting is a better option than buying

But let me call your bluff. Even at 5% appreciation/year (which is low by historical standards). An 800K house will gain 40K/year. Let's say I pay your $1200.00/mo rent for a whole year. You've saved $14,400, or roughly 1/3 the amount you would have gained by owning. And don't forget, there is an e...

Re: Real Estate Commissions

I'm not angry at all. Responding to ETB is like a silly little guilty pleasure... you know your not going to get anywhere, but it's still amusing to see what he / she is going to post next. Thinktom's guilty pleasure is the UFC (which I don't think is a guilty pleasure at all), mine is debating with...

Re: Real Estate Commissions

[quotes]Since late 2009 early 2010 your posts have taken a negative and abrasive tone. You've resorted to name-calling and become belligerent.[/quote] If you say so. Since you seem to enjoy mining old posts, please do me the favour of picking posts over the past couple of years where I've been abusi...

Re: Real Estate Commissions

I think realtor skills are more like strategies. If I'm FSBO I'm not bound by any code of ethics. Thus, I would tell buyers agent that there are other offers on the home even if this were not true. If an offer came in even 50K above my asking I would say there is already a higher offer and the "bid...

Re: Real Estate Commissions

I don't think ETB meant it that way
Yup - that's the beauty of arrogance. The offenders don't usually realize how much of a prick they come off as.

Re: Real Estate Commissions

"thinktom" "eyesthebye" What I don't understand is why you can't wish other the same whatever the endeavour - including selling their own home. Instead it's fearmongering and scare tactics.] Your lack of an apology for your misguided and false insinuations speaks far louder than your words. Flowers...

Re: Vancouver indvidual property sales details

I have friends in the market similarly well-healed with income 400K+/yr. They've even made the statement that they can't compete with the kind of money being bid for decent homes on the westside (barely west - anything b/w Main and Cambie should be called central). I think they are refusing to acce...

Re: gold doesn't stack up

Thats awesome. Eyes needs to be forgiven - he's probably never held actual gold before, hence would not know how heavy a small amount can be... I didn't bother checking the fact that China has 1024 tons of gold, but assuming they do, that would only fill up a decent size living room.... 13' x 17' x...

Re: gold doesn't stack up

"metalhead" Apparently all the gold mined since the beginning of man would only fill two olympic sized pools. that's utter bullshit. Chinese govt alone has 1054 tons reserve - that's over 2 million pounds! Do you ever bother to run simple calculations? Weight of gold is about 1200 lbs / cubic foot....

Re: gold doesn't stack up

I recently heard an analyist on TV say "when you owe the bank $1000, you worry. When you owe the bank $1,000,000, the bank worries". He used the analogy to illustrate the relationship between the US and China and the co-dependancy. China lends the US money, so the US can buy things made in China.
