Re: GFC2 arrives. Everybody ready to repay your debts?

I'd love to see a day of reckoning in BC (so I can finally buy a house!), but until China kicks the bucket...... (and it's still got legs)...... Vancouver will probably chug along unscathed with even more ridiculous prices on a relative basis. Taipan - You follow the Gold Coast property market? I've...

Re: Real Estate Predictions for 2012

I`ll do this once.... V880558 Watch it for 24-36 mos 1.3acres hey. Well who ever holds that property in 12 - 36 months from now wont be having a happy time. As a developer [/size] who uses such stock as trading stock, here is a brutal reality. Hey Taipan, you're a good guy but what's with the whole...

Re: Real Estate Predictions for 2012

1-year forward (as opposed to YE2012) predictions pulled fresh from the butt: - SFH Westside & Richmond: Down 10-15% (Chinese $$$ takes a breather) - Prime mid-high-end DT Condos (1500sf+): Up 10-15% (Has been stagnant last couple years.... up modestly on price convergence with SFH and leading globa...

RET Meet - Week of August 7th?

Passing through YVR week of August 7th. Any interest here for an RET meet? I thought this could be a good opportunity to get a group together for a few brewskis...... also an opportunity for the faceless trolls to put-up or shut-up..... ;) To get the ball rolling, I'm gonna suggest Tues Aug 9th, 8pm...

Re: hige detached listings surge this week

Nobody could, this bubble was driven by the arbitrary whims of a federal policy informed by the need to win elections come hell or high water. Why do you think they're tightening up now? A full majority term of course.
Totally off the mark.

Re: Teach your kids Mandarin/Cantonese

I can't speak for the ex-pats you know hotshot - but the ones I know who live in Hong Kong are there for the money (and a few won't return as it would mean having to address their defaulted student loan debt which are now 10+ years old) And they all left before the real estate frenzy - meaning this...

Re: Don't buy apartment in far suburbs

Here's an article about intense apartment building in Seattle. at the expense of the suburbs. Sounds like it's the same as Vancouver. Don't think that there's much future for apartments in expensive car-dependent suburbs. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/businesstechnology/2015562249_cityapart...

Re: the Everygreen Line Skytrain will have its funding annou

I am in Beijing at the moment. They have much sophisticated train/subway network than we can possibly imagine in Vancouver. 14 subway lines in operations with 7 more under construction. Met a father and son from West Vancouver yesterday on the subway. They were heading to the Summer Palace. The fat...

Re: Teach your kids Mandarin/Cantonese

this cat riskarb is a hotshot playboy. Not exactly the type to settle down...anywhere. They follow money and excitement and don't care where they end up so long as there's a pot of gold at the end. For every riskarb leaving there are 10 wanting to benefit from the stability, lifestyle, beauty and m...

ASIDE I'm half Chinese, read/write Chinese and live/work in China (born, educated and raised in BC) It's been 16 years abroad..... I've always dreamed of moving "home" one day and I just reached the point where I've said f*ck it. Why? - No interest in moving back to Canada from China to be surrounde...

Re: International Tourist Visits to BC at 17 Yr Low

Interesting but not entirely surprising. With CAD so ridiculously high, I've cut short all my Vancouver trips over the past 2 years...... European destinations much more attractive. On the horizon though, there are hordes of Mainland Chinese about to come over (Gov't about to lift restrictions on ov...

Re: Vancouver homes more expensive than New York or London

I'll say it again (as a half Asian, overseas/non-resident Canadian working in China)... WE NEED: - Limits on foreign ownership of property by non-Canadian citizens (e.g., non-citizens can buy strata title but not landed housing). This is perfectly normal housing policy in many country's around the w...
