Re: Speculation tax ! Finally

$100 per month rent? you don't think that will flag CRA if they are actually checking.
Again, I don't know if they are checking or not, but this should be a simple filter in the database.

Re: Speculation tax ! Finally

So if you rent your property out you're exempt from the tax? What bullshit. If these cheaters can come up with phoney owners they will most certainly be able to show phoney renters. Govt gave cheaters a loophole I was thinking of this.... however if they use phony renters they have to pay income ta...

Re: The Money Pit Tax

you do realize the tax scheme is going to drastically hurt supply, and raise the cost of building a new home.  Which is of course passed onto the purchaser.  E.g. Additional PTT over 3 million, developers are caught paying those fees.  Much of what the NDP is doing is going to have unintended conse...

Re: Speculation tax ! Finally

Wow alota peeps drank the coolaid. Must have been the easy money. Too many personal agendas here and not looking at the big picture. The NDP is not going to cater to the people with vacation homes. They are trying to stop the bigger problem -> housing crisis. It's not healthy for people and the eco...

Re: Speculation tax ! Finally

Canada needs immigration and I think you would agree that rich immigrants are better than poor immigrants that stress our social assistance resources. I'll take middle class immigrant over the rich ones - they make for better neighbours and are generally not tax evaders Money laundering, tax evasio...

Re: Speculation tax ! Finally

I just showed an example where you are punishing a person who's income has remained the same, it hasn't changed, yet her tax burden has almost doubled!   The government clearly announced this wouldn't impact BC taxpayers, only to find out that it will indeed impact them.  That's not exactly the way...

Re: Speculation tax ! Finally

I really don't see what's so hard to understand about what Real is trying to say. The government is trying to balance the BC economy towards a more sustainable equilibrium where people don't have to fight tooth and nail and scrape every penny just to live in this city. This philosophy is in the very...

Re: Is the boom over?

It's unfortunate how some of these "late-comers" are going to be underwater. They were probably thinking "if we don't buy now we can never get in" and that is enough of a reason to over-extend just to get in. FOMO always kills in runaway markets... The government has done such a...

Re: Trends for 2018

Expect a minimum of 5% correction this year, 10% seems more likely. The condo/detached divergence is just people trying to grab what they can out of frenzy. This will correct itself once people sober up - this takes time. This is the year where people snap out of their delusion and realize that pric...

Re: Speculation tax ! Finally

Squeeking wheels. Not sure anybody has too much sympathy for people that don't pay tax in BC with multiple properties with one sitting empty. Sure. But what about all the BCers that have vacation homes that may now incur this in some shape or form. I find two qualities of this tax patently absurd: ...

Re: Is the boom over?

Here? Late-comers get burned. "Toronto Home Sales Remain Depressed as Prices Begin Stabilizing ... sales in Canada’s once-hot housing market fell 35 percent from a year earlier to 5,175 units, according to data released Tuesday by the Toronto Real Estate Board. It was the weakest month of sale...

Re: Speculation tax ! Finally

more writing on the wall. I was afraid that the NDP would not live up to their promises but I have to say... they delivered. It couldn't have turned out any better that they needed Green party's support to win government. Weaver will keep them in check. I'm looking forward to see if they implement t...

Re: Immigration has undoubtedly escalated housing prices in Vancouver, Toronto

yz - No feelings hurt at all, just called it as it is. A lot of your posts have a condescending tone to it and you make it seem like you know a lot about everything. But looking at your post on Technical analysis, it's quite apparent that you know very little about the subject even though you make i...
