Re: Climate Warming is coming to BC

This... [Bruce Pardy, an expert on environmental law and governance at Queen’s University, said the IPCC “has run into difficulty again. That is not surprising, since the IPCC claims to be a scientific body that in reality is an intensely political organization.” He said their mandate to offer polic...

Re: CMHC Forecast 2013 and 2014

The bottom line is that I'm right Jim you are so wrong. You didn't re-read what you wrote did you. I will quote you one more time and to assist you, I will bold the important parts. This is what you wrote in response to my initial question to you. Anyway, the point raised by CMHC is that over a 15-...

Re: CMHC Forecast 2013 and 2014

Anyway, the point raised by CMHC is that over a 15-year period, household formation has exceeded new supply. Forcing up prices. Explaining the movement of lower-income to the periphery. Re: CMHC Forecast 2013 and 2014

However, this neglects one key component – demolition of old structures – which is especially important in a developed area like the Vancouver CMA where much of the new construction tends to be in-fills or replacement structures. Re: Brooklyn Home Prices Rise to Record in N.Y. Sales Frenzy

Despite media reports of million-dollar house prices, the real price for a detached house in most of Metro Vancouver is less than $600,000... Yes it is, if you exclude Coquitlam, Burnaby, Ladner, New West, North Van, Port Moody, Richmond, Tsawwassen, Vancouver, and West Vancouver. ...and the price ...

Re: Road pricing logic may extend to transit too

This. (from the article) Belcarra Mayor Ralph Drew said TransLink's time frame for decisions should be reversed – the region should first decide how much more residents can afford to pay and then decide the projects that will be built, not the other way around. He said the other big bills coming to ...

because it's not the optimal economic choice as they think they will never recoup their costs
You mean that if you do a $20k kitchen reno, your place won't go up in value by $100k?

Re: vancouver ethnic map, 2013

I also wonder just how much additional exhaust pollution is created by closing off so many traffic lanes in traffic congested areas. Just like anything else which impedes traffic flow, the bike lanes seem to me to be an ecological disgrace in a time of global climate change. Bang on. I would love t...

Re: Mortgage Rates. 5yr or 10yr?

but only a real meanie would remind them that it's not that long ago a five year mortgage cost 12% or more and historically, 8% is a fairly normal 5 year rate. Further to that, weren't there some doom and gloom projections that are based on a rise of only 2%, let alone going back to a "normal" rate...
