Re: Bombshell for some Airbnb users

The proposal is to require a business license registration and pay 3% fee, valid only for owner-occupiers or renters with consent from the property owner.

The noose tightens...

Re: Predictions on what NDP/Greens will do

Within the next 4-6 months: - Some sort of task force that will start laying bare some questionable practices in real estate. - Closing loopholes on residential tenancy leases - More money for FICOM and more data sharing with the CRA Longer term I expect some debate on some income-based property tax...

Re: How do you explain Vancouver plummeting and Toronto surging?

Not in 2017 and I think 2018 is unlikely. My secret thoughts are that we won't see oversupply until well into the 2020s when the Millennials are done with their baby making and the Boomers need to move to lockup suites.

Re: How do you explain Vancouver plummeting and Toronto surging?

Wait Vancouver is plummeting? What planet are we on? It's insane sauce in condos and attached. And I want a crash more than anyone else except maybe Taipan and that freako character. But I can't ignore the reality...

Re: LePage Expects Vancouver Housing Correction in 2017

If only Trump were a Republican president... Single-family houses were on a crazy tear, and they had to slow down. If they see a drop of 20% they will still be up 7% annualized. I don't expect-20%. That would require the worst spring sales season ever and I still think people will buy. The urge to b...

Re: LePage Expects Vancouver Housing Correction in 2017

I'm not worried - we're all so obsessed over single family housing when there's so much more!

Re: LePage Expects Vancouver Housing Correction in 2017

Inventory is still very low. If there is to be a "correction" it will require significant listings AND very slow sales. I'm not convinced 2017 is the year for that. eyesthebye is right - there is still demand. And it's not like sales are insanely slow. They may be slow in some very specific areas bu...

Hey jimtan, as my ex-colleague close to retirement quipped, "Once you leave, you're out."

Re: Is it me or is the Westside getting creamed?

Guys, hey guys (I don't think there are any girls here), I went to a party on the Westside and guess what nobody brought up real estate! What is this devilry you ask? Here is my conjecture: I think it's because they don't want to be labeled racists. One lady did bemoan having to live around City Hal...

Apparently Tom nearly fell out of his chair when he met Johnny Horton in ze Fleisch. Don't ever say Tom stands for nothing.

Re: Goodbye Vancouver

I'm simply outraged that I'm being told about this. I mean it's not like fraud has been going on for decades and people have been being caught for decades. Some even waited the 5 years, and were granted reentry. But that's another story.

I'm sure the market will implode, but has anyone made money off zero hedge prognostications? And they have been bearish since I can remember.

Re: How far can it drop? 20% or 30%?

prices will likely be adjusted down 15%...the exact value of the imposed tax. Mechanically that will necessarily mean a significant drop on sales for the rest of the year and next. I don't disagree that could happen, but I think the slowdown necessary to drop prices will go as unnoticed as my baldi...

Re: Should the government intervene?

Ah an interesting point, we abhor certain rules inside a "corrupt" country with numerous human rights violations, yet seem to think they need to adhere to the capital controls the same government has imposed. I don't know...

Re: BC Hydro not shutting off power. Saying I own $862.93

I'm glad to hear you caused them so much annoyance. You ruined a couple of employees' evenings/afternoons and they had to spend hours in meetings explaining why they lost. It's frustrating sometimes being part of a constitutional democracy, but your case shows that our court system works! You should...
