Well, they will thank their lucky stars, that they arent one of the thousands of miserable souls who cant sell their properties in 2013!

"bloom off the rose": common English idiom meaning that what appeared good no longer does.

Example of use:

<< · Scarcity and exclusivity may focus attention. (Think about the "red velvet rope" at the trendy club of your choice.) The flipside of this is that exclusivity, especially fake exclusivity, is fashion and the attention fades once the bloom is off the rose.>>

If you Google "bloom is off the rose" you'll find lots more.

<<"a flourishing, healthy condition; the time or period of greatest beauty, artistry, etc.: the bloom of youth; the bloom of Romanticism">>

Bloom is generally a surface appearance that is indicative of health or good quality

<<5.
a glow or flush on the cheek indicative of youth and health: a serious illness that destroyed her bloom.
6.
the glossy, healthy appearance of the coat of an animal.
7.
a moist, lustrous appearance indicating freshness in fish.
8.
redness or a fresh appearance on the surface of meat.>>

In general brand-new houses are either "custom" or "spec". Custom-built houses are built for a client and so don't come on the market whereas spec houses are speculative ventures by builders or by investors who hire builders.

The house in question was almost certainly a spec house ... the hoped-for profit is not materialising ... capisce?

Thankyou for making the effort to explain that.

Feel sorry for this builder/investor, but what he was thinking? There are too many new houses in West Vancouver.

There are too many new houses in West Vancouver.

How so? Lots of people want to live there, why not build to fulfill the demand?
You're over-thinking it

Yesterday watched "Real Housewives of Vancouver" reality tv show. One of the ladies is a developer/investor's wive Ronnie Negus (husband Russell Negus). On the show, the wife is advertising their new development - the family bought four (or five?) side-by-side waterfront houses in Lions Bay. Plan to build the biggest West Vancouver waterfront mansion.

Living in West Vancouver is irritating because you have to cross a busy bridge each time you want to go into town to buy something.

If only they had put Skytrain on the Lions Gate bridge. Can you imagine how high prices would have been????

The skytrain can only climb a 6 degree grade or so - that would be too steep.

The only rapid transit plan that makes sense would be a continuation of the Canada Line underneath Burrard Inlet. I don't think this was part of the planning when the line was constructed and there would have to be some major re-work, but anything is possible.

It's unfortunate that they don't have any stores in the north shore.
